Opiate is a collection of heavy, aggressive, cynical music (though the tail end of the title track sounds more like acid rock), packaged in songs noticeably shorter than on their later efforts (Undertow, , and Aenima, ). While not as impressive as Undertow, arguably their finest effort, Opiate has a definite appeal.

Sep 17,  · The sound is really good on vinyl. The fantastic art work which came with the cd is not on this vinyl. It's a plain sleeve inside with the tracks numbered. The bonus track on cd is not on this ep either. It's worth noting the negative aspects that might disappoint later. On the upside the drumming sounds incredible on vinyl/5(1).

Chill rhythms with some IDM touches: Opiate's OBJECTS FOR AN IDEAL HOME at times sounds like a soundtrack for a lazy evening at home. Though Knak occasionally structures tracks like Wishmountain-era Herbert ("Toothpaste," for instance, builds up more concrete sounds to make your teeth shine), more often, he offers a sweetly melodic note, like on "PK 50," "Sorry 4/5(4).
